The Work Cooperative program is formally recognition by the school as an educational strategy integrating classroom learning and progressive work experience. The student will work in a setting outside of school, which is of interest to them. The work setting is considered an extention of the classroom, providing the student with essential work-related skills. Classroom topics will include those covered and listed under Consumer Education.
The following are expectations of the students: - Students must have a clear understanding that the Work Cooperative is a work-related educational experience and participation in this program does exempt them from any responsibilities in regards to classes in which they are concurrently enrolled in at Tuscola Community High School. - The student is expected to treat the training station employer and fellow employees with respect. - The student is expected to arrive at the designated Training Station on time and ready to attend to assigned duties. - If student is sick or has an excused absence then they MUST notify the school AND Training Station by 8:30 a.m. that morning. - If the school has a holiday or day off scheduled it is up to the student and employer to decide if the student is expected to work that day(s). - If the student is fired, quits the assigned job, or gets laid off through no fault of his/her own, then it is their responsibility to find a replacement job within 2 weeks of the dismissal OR they will be placed in regular classroom setting. I, Mrs. Clapper, will provide list of potential employees for the student to contact, but it is the sole responsibility of the student to pursue and secure a new position. The new position MUST be okayed by myself and parent. - Student must provide his/her own transportation to and from the workplace. - I will conduct monthly evaluations by phone, email, or in-person visits with the employer. The evaluations will be a grade for that grading period.
